The brief
A shop where the product is the size of a wall and has to be seen hung and underfoot. A conventional retail plan does not allow for that.
What we did
One room, one vault
The whole shop is a single space, so the largest pieces can hang without breaking the plan.
Showed the rugs as they are used
Pieces hang on the wall and lie on the floor in the same room, so a customer sees one the way it will live.
Ran daylight down one side
Natural light runs the length of the gallery, which is how the dyes are judged.
Coordination to handover
Drawn, then built.
The same view at the same crop. Drag the handle to move between the coordination set and the finished floor.

Gallery study. Competition entry.
What the entry proposes
The idea.
Three decisions the scheme rests on, and what each one buys.
- PlanOne room
The whole shop is a single vault, so a piece the size of a wall can hang without breaking the plan.
- DisplayWall and floor
Every rug is shown hung and underfoot in the same space, which is how a customer will live with it.
- LightOne long side
Daylight runs the length of the gallery. The dyes are judged in it rather than under a shop fitting.
