The brief
A station that has to move very large numbers of people and still read as one building from the approach. The brief asked for a concourse without internal columns.
What we did
One roof, one span
A single structure covers the concourse, so the floor below can be planned without columns in the way.
Daylight through the shell
Openings in the roof bring light down to platform level, which cuts the lighting load during the day.
Drew the approach with the building
The forecourt and the drop-off were planned at the same time as the station rather than added to it.
